FAN POSTS TICKET STUB OF FINAL EVENT HELD IN NEW HAVEN COLISEUM

The New Haven coliseum was a building I practically grew up in. I witnessed so many hockey games as well as concerts in the building. My very first concert was attended there. Frank Sinatra, sometime in the early 1980’s with my grandmother. I also attended my very first pro wrestling event in the building. The April 1988 tapings of WWF Superstars of Wrestling.

I would go on to attend just about every show they had up until closings. From house shows to the Monday Night Raw era. Sadly the building is closed down and was demolished many years ago and is now a parking lot behind the Knights of Columbus headquarters.

A fan recently took to Facebook to post a ticket stub of the final event held in the coliseum. A WWE House show from the “Tour of Defiance” August 26th 2002.

It would be a number of years before any pro wrestling would hit the city of New Haven ever again. I recall attending an indie show by Connecticut Championship Wrestling some years later headlined by WWF/E veteran Tito Santana in a high school gym.

The Coliseum is surely missed by many and is the subject of the 2010 documentary “The Last Days of The Coliseum”. Recommended viewing to any and all that miss the great building. Many thanks to Hollis Martin for posting that ticket stub and inspiring this writing.
